Western companies who want others to comply with IPR (Intellectual Property Rights) don’t seem to hesitate to make their own traditional and ayurvedic methods and cures. India once again has been successful in protecting its traditional knowledge by preventing an attempt made by Europe’s Leading Dermaceutical Laboratory-Pangaea Laboratories Limited, to take patent on a medicinal composition containing turmeric, pine bark and green tea for treating hair loss. Recently, a unit of CSIR, an Indian Govt unit foiled Colgate-Palmolive Company’s attempt to patent a mouthwash formula containing herb (Nutmeg- Jayaphal) extract used in Indian traditional systems of medicine to cure oral diseases, at European Patent office. Till date CSIR has succeeded with hundreds of such cases – and it is good to know that they are on the lookout for many more.

During today’s (Monday) ongoing anti-terrorist operations in Gurdaspur, Punjab, some news and current affairs TV channels carried live telecast of these operations without restricting themselves to periodic briefing. This greatly risks the lives of concerned Security Personnel and compromises the effectiveness of these operations. Government ordered the Media to follow the rules for this. This unfortunately happened during the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.

Mail Today had expose last week of a major research projects, ‘Towards Freedom’, has been going on for 43 years and crores of rupees spend on it, and with no outcome; further this may be just the tip of the iceberg. More shocking irregularity lies in how some well-known historians have taken ICHR for a ride, in the name of the ‘Translation Project. While the books of these eminent historians have got published in several vernacular languages, there are more than 224 manuscripts which couldn’t see the light of day, even after the ICHR spent lakhs of rupees on translating them.

GREENPEACE INDIA TO CHALLENGE INDIA FOR ITS CANCELLATION. GOVTS HAVE MADE SERIOUS CHARGES AGAINST THEM
Greenpeace India, a local NGO extension of Greenpeace international is staring at shutdown of its India operation as they have received a cancellation notice from the central and now Tamil Nadu government. It should be noted that such notices are not lightly issues and usually are backed by facts and concerns. Greenpeace is threatening to sue the governments? We say go ahead, if you think these threats would work …
